Andrew Berger is an intellectual property litigator whose practice centers on copyright and trademark protection and disputes. He has represented a wide range of clients — from writers, photographers, illustrators, designers, and artists to an Academy Award-winning documentarian, public relations agencies, and international organizations including the Government of Ecuador and the Women’s Tennis Association.
Andrew’s engagement with intellectual property goes well beyond the courtroom. For over thirty years, he has served as a mediator in the Southern District of New York, handling copyright and trademark cases — an experience that has meaningfully shaped how he approaches conflict resolution. He is a regular speaker and debater on IP developments before bar associations, law schools, and IP organizations, and writes about emerging trends at the intersection of copyright, trademark, and AI on LinkedIn and through his blog, IP in Brief. He co-founded and served as the first president of the Intellectual Property Institute, a subgroup of the Litigation Council of America, and has served as a trustee and executive committee member of the Copyright Society of the USA, with active roles in the ABA Litigation Section and the International Trademark Association.
For more than a decade, Andrew has taught a copyright litigation seminar as an adjunct professor at Cornell Law School — a role he describes as one that elevates his own curiosity about the law. Recognized as a Super Lawyer in Intellectual Property Litigation for fourteen consecutive years, he brings to Patrick Doerr a rare combination of trial experience, institutional leadership, and genuine passion for the field.
